| 11th Annual Wong Fei Hung North Eastern All Kung Fu Championship! |
Instructors David Chiang and James Gu brought a team of Wu Tang students to the Wong Fei Hung Tournament to show the other
Kung Fu schools what Wu Tang Kung Fu can do. Assistant Intructor Robert Kuan along with Jin Shen Ooi and Jake Preda fought in the light contact sparring divisions. Both Jake Preda and Jin Ooi dominated their fights but despite the rules of the competition, consistently overwhelming their opponents. Unfortunately our competitors were handicapped in the competition, since they were not allowed to grab and attack their opponents, use their elbows or knees, or even be aggressive. Jake Preda made it to the semi-finals of his class, where he was disqualified after tripping and knocking down his opponent over 4 times. Jin Sheng Ooi received a bronze medal in his class after losing by split decision to the eventual winner of his class (who won because his opponents were all disqualified). In the forms competition, Robert Kuan brought home the gold medal in the teen Advanced Northern Style Hand Form Competition! David Chiang won a silver medal in the Northern Style Praying Mantis competition and Jin Ooi won a second bronze medal in the Intermediate Northern Style Hand Form Competition. More importantly, we were approached throughout the competition because many of the other kung fu practitioners recognized that we had a style and power that was very different from what they had seen before. Our fighting ability impressed many people, who had not seen the forms used and applied in competition or in real fights. This competition gave us the opportunity to see how Wu Tang kung fu compared to other fighting styles fared very well. Good Job and Congratulations to all our competitors for their excellent performance. See videos from the competition HERE! | SEPTEMBER 23, 2006 |
